In 2013 Gangnam Style was the only video on YouTube that had ever passed a billion views. Today the record is 17 billion, and it belongs to a children's song.

Despacito took the record in 2017 with 4.61B - it had only been uploaded that January, so it collected more views in twelve months than Gangnam Style had gathered in five years. Baby Shark Dance went past it in 2020 and has never been caught.

Gangnam Style is still growing the whole way through, 1.86B to 6.04B. It never lost a single view - everything above it simply grew faster.
