How to Talk About Yesterday in English — English Podcast for Learning English Conversation
Talking about yesterday is one of the first skills you need in any English conversation — and it all starts with the past tense. 🎧 In this English podcast, Leo and Tina teach you how to talk about yesterday in English, step by step, with short sentences, easy words, and lots of repetition.
This is a listening and speaking lesson for beginner and elementary learners (A2–B1). You will hear a natural conversation, learn the simple rules behind it, and practice saying the sentences out loud. By the end, you will be able to tell the story of your whole day — from waking up to going to bed — in clear, natural English.
In this episode, you will:
1️⃣ Learn the two verb families of the past simple — regular verbs (watched, walked, cooked, cleaned) and irregular verbs (went, ate, saw, had, made, bought)
2️⃣ Use "was" and "were" to talk about people, places, feelings, and the weather — "I was tired," "Yesterday it was cold"
3️⃣ Ask past questions with "did" — "What did you do yesterday?" "Where did you go?" — and answer with "Yes, I did" / "No, I didn't"
4️⃣ Make negative sentences with "didn't" — "I didn't have time" — and avoid the classic mistake "I didn't went"
5️⃣ Practice the most useful time words: yesterday, last night, yesterday morning, two days ago
6️⃣ Tell your whole day as a story with four small connector words: first, then, after that, finally
7️⃣ Study 10 useful words from today's conversation, each with an easy definition and example sentences
⚠️ Common mistakes we fix in this episode:
• "Yesterday night" → say "last night" • "Did you went?" → say "Did you go?" • "I eated breakfast" → say "I ate breakfast"
💬 YOUR TURN:
What is one interesting thing you did yesterday? Write one sentence in the comments. Copy one of these formats: • "Yesterday I ___." • "First I ___, and after that I ___." • "Yesterday I didn't ___, because ___." We read every single comment — and don't worry about mistakes. Mistakes are information!
