The Middle East is currently engulfed in one of the most intense military confrontations in recent history, involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, with the Gulf region rapidly becoming a major frontline in the conflict. The ongoing hostilities have had a dramatic effect on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint through which nearly 20% of the world’s crude oil supply passes. Iran’s threats to close the Strait and disruptions to maritime traffic have driven global energy prices sharply higher, causing concern in markets worldwide. Shipping companies have suspended operations in the area amid heightened risks from projectiles and naval threats.
