Overview of the Conflict

A major escalation between the United States, Israel, and Iran has unfolded since late February–early March 2026, following the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei by U.S. and allied forces — a decision that triggered wide‑ranging retaliation from Tehran.

The conflict has rapidly expanded from targeted airstrikes into a broader war involving massive conventional strikes, ballistic missile barrages, drone operations, and large military deployments. U.S. and Israeli forces launched Operation Epic Fury, a coordinated campaign of air assaults and bombardments against Iran’s military infrastructure, strategic missile sites, and command centers.

Iran’s Missile and Drone Campaign

In response to the U.S.‑Israeli offensive, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) — particularly its aerospace and missile forces — has initiated a series of massive missile and drone strikes against U.S. military bases, radar installations, and allied facilities throughout the Persian Gulf and Middle East region.

According to Iranian sources and regional reporting, these waves of strikes have targeted:

U.S. radar stations and forward‑operating sites in the United Arab Emirates, damaging or destroying critical early‑warning systems used to track ballistic missiles and drones.

USAF and allied air assets, including a reportedly destroyed Boeing E‑3 Sentry AWACS airborne early warning aircraft near Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, along with damage to electronic warfare and refueling aircraft — a significant blow to U.S. air surveillance and support capabilities.
U.S. troop positions and logistical hubs in Gulf Cooperation Council states, where missiles and explosive drones are said to have struck deployment areas used for American ground and air forces
