War returns to Iran with Israel, US strikes

Russian President Vladimir Putin and United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed “serious concern” over escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to a statement from the Kremlin. During a phone call, the two leaders emphasized the importance of a swift end to hostilities and the need to strengthen political and diplomatic efforts to peacefully resolve the conflict while respecting the legitimate interests of all regional states, with which Russia has traditionally maintained friendly and mutually beneficial relations. The statement also highlighted the growing cooperation between Russia and the UAE, noting that bilateral ties are successfully developing across many areas. The call comes amid ongoing regional escalation following the US and Israeli offensive against Iran since February 28, which has resulted in over 1,340 deaths, including that of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets, further intensifying international concern over the conflict.
