Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it seized two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, transferring them to Iranian waters over alleged violations of maritime regulations and navigation safety. According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the ships were intercepted for operating without proper authorization and attempting to exit covertly.
Iranian media reports also suggest a third vessel, described as a Greek-owned ship, was targeted and is now disabled off Iran’s coast. However, there has been no independent confirmation of these claims. Earlier, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that two container ships had come under fire in the region.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, raising fresh concerns over maritime security and global trade disruptions.
