In this data visualization bar race I look at monthly shipments of cell phones for the top brands. I normally use a running average, quarterly or yearly to smoothen out the data that's why you'll notice wild movements. We’re taking a wild 26-year trip down memory lane to see how mobile phones evolved from chunky bricks to the glass slabs we can’t live without today. Because of the different release schedules you'll notice that the top spots keep changing constantly.

We’ll watch giants like Nokia and BlackBerry rise and fall, see the exact moment Apple and Android changed the game forever, and look at how brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and Huawei took over the modern world. Grab a snack and let's get into it!

0:00 – The Golden Era of "Dumb" Phones (2000–2006) Back when Nokia ruled the world with the indestructible 3310 (and Snake!), and snapping a Motorola RAZR shut was a total flex. We also look at early regional heavyweights like France’s Sagem, China’s Ningbo Bird, and South Korea's Pantech.

1:30 – The Smartphone Revolution (2007–2011) The moment everything changed. Steve Jobs drops the original iPhone, HTC kicks off the Android era with the G1, and Palm tries to reinvent multitasking.
