If you host a podcast, here's a simple tip to help improve your drop-off rate.Get to the damn point.
I know. That's really simple. But so few podcasts do it.
Don't open with an ad. Unless you have one of the most popular podcasts, you can't get away with this. You'll lose listeners.
How much are you getting for that ad anyway?
Don't open too casually, talking about nothing or have a long introduction that you do every week. You're putting people to sleep.
I admit that podcasting isn't my true expertise, but I have recorded over 500 episodes during the past 11 years. I've learned what works and what doesn't, but I also have ears and know what doesn't work on other shows.
Treat your podcast intro like short-form video. You have a job to grab attention quickly or they'll leave you. Otherwise, the only listeners you'll get are those who already know and follow you. New listeners help you grow.
