Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has delivered a sharply worded message aimed at US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, linking America’s economic situation and oil strategy to the ongoing crisis.

In a social media statement, Ghalibaf reportedly addressed Bessent over the pressure surrounding global oil prices and US strategic petroleum reserves. He sarcastically suggested that the US Treasury Secretary should do everything possible to control oil prices, arguing that his career could depend heavily on what happens in the energy market.

Ghalibaf also criticized the continued use of strategic oil reserves, warning that taking oil from emergency reserves could become increasingly risky. In his pointed remarks, he presented Washington with what he described as a difficult choice: continue drawing oil from strategic reserves or “pray to the gods” that the reserve wells do not collapse.

The Iranian speaker further used a striking metaphor, saying that the world is watching the situation while buying popcorn. His comments appear to be part of Tehran’s broader criticism of US economic and energy policies amid heightened tensions and uncertainty in global oil markets.
