After more than two months of recording, mixing and editing, I can finally introduce you the video I couldn't wait to publish! I listen to pop punk everyday for about 16 years, it's one of the most important pieces of me.
With a little but determined revival on the charts in recent years thanks to artists like MGK, Mod Sun, Yungblud and others, I thought this was the right time to record a tribute for the music that changed my life.
There are other videos like this on youtube, but they usually start from the 70s era.
I wanted to try something different, so I analyzed the previous period, where the origins of punk really start, and then I focused on the artists who influenced the sub-genre of my choice.
We all have different views when we try to label something as pop punk. Punks from the old school use tha term for fake punk, the mainstream one. Others look at the lyrics: if they talk about love or teenage years it’s pop punk, otherwise not. For me it's just a matter of melody. To put it simply, it has to be catchy. There are bands with political lyrics that have recorded great albums that fall into this category.
I gave myself only one rule: just one song for each artist (unless there's a featuring, you'll understand why towards the end of the video)
Hope you'll like it!
(Being a chronology with subjective taste, there will be complaints, I'm sure of it. It's not a problem, just ask. I will try to explain my decisions in the best way possible)
