Kanlaon volcano's ‘explosive’ eruption sends ash kilometers into the air | ABS-CBN News

An explosive eruption occurred at the Kanlaon Volcano in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental around 5:51 a.m. Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The explosion produced a "voluminous bent plume approximately 4,000 meters tall", which drifted southwest, according to Phivolcs.

Alert level 3 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, which means magma is near or at the surface and that a hazardous eruption is possible within weeks.

Canlaon City's local government said that entry into the 6-kilometer danger zone was prohibited.

“Be ready anytime. We do not know how big the eruption is this time. Those inside should not be complacent,” Mayor Jose Cardenas said in a social media video.
