Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny has become the first Latin artist to perform solo at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show, delivering the first fully Spanish-language performance the major event has ever seen.

The Super Bowl is America's most-viewed television broadcast. A record 127.7 million Americans tuned in to watch the 2025 game, eclipsing the estimated 123 million viewership a year earlier.

While the show has been praised by several on social media for its message of "love, inclusion and the representation of so many different cultures", US President Donald Trump called it "absolutely terrible" and a "slap in the face".

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, used a recent Grammy acceptance speech to criticise the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency amid sweeping raids and heightened tensions across the country.
