Temporary Peace or Strategic Deception? Inside Iran and Hamas’ Endgame

President Trump is urging Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions and negotiate a deal, signaling openness to diplomacy while warning that failure could bring severe consequences. While talks remain uncertain, U.S. officials confirm that direct engagement with Tehran is underway, even as contingency plans continue behind the scenes.

According to Iranian media, the country’s president has ordered the start of negotiations, raising questions about whether the regime is genuinely seeking compromise or simply buying time. Trump’s special envoy, Steve Wyckoff, is scheduled to arrive in Israel for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of a possible meeting with Iran’s foreign minister later in the week. Speaking before the Knesset, Netanyahu acknowledged the challenges facing Israel, stressing vigilance and readiness in an increasingly volatile environment.

Israeli leaders say they are closely monitoring developments and preparing for every scenario. Netanyahu warned that any attack on Israel would bring unbearable consequences, underscoring the seriousness of the moment. Despite ongoing diplomatic signals, the United States and Israel are simultaneously increasing military coordination. Joint naval exercises in the Red Sea involving Israeli vessels and a U.S. Navy destroyer highlight preparations taking place even as negotiations are discussed publicly.

Meanwhile, Israel has reopened the Rafah crossing with Egypt, allowing limited civilian movement but blocking the transfer of goods. At the same time, new reports shed light on Hamas’ continued efforts to retain control of Gaza. Israeli media revealed that Hamas leadership circulated a secret internal document outlining plans to govern the territory despite proposals calling for the group’s complete disarmament and removal from power.

Additional revelations have fueled controversy, including the resurfacing of a decade-old photo showing a Gaza doctor wearing a Hamas uniform, raising renewed concerns about the terror group’s deep entrenchment within civilian institutions.

Analyst Avi Abelow @Pulseofisrael argues that both Iran and Hamas are employing a well-established strategy rooted in Islamic history — using temporary truces to regroup and rebuild when direct confrontation is not favorable. He explains that such pauses are not genuine peace efforts, but tactical delays intended to weaken adversaries before launching future attacks.

Abelow points to historical precedent, noting that this approach dates back to AD 628, when temporary agreements were used as a means to gain strategic advantage. He warns that Western leaders often misunderstand this tactic, mistaking short-term calm for lasting resolution. According to Abelow , the only effective response to jihadi ideology is decisive defeat, not repeated negotiations that allow hostile actors to strengthen themselves.

He further argues that the long-term objective of jihadist movements extends far beyond Israel, targeting Jews first and Christians next, with growing influence already visible across Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States — often without open warfare.

Reflecting on past U.S. policy, Abelow says previous administrations negotiated with Iran for years, releasing billions of dollars in funding, only to see Tehran continue advancing its agenda. He believes those efforts were largely symbolic, allowing Iran to project cooperation while avoiding meaningful concessions.

According to Abelow , President Trump recognizes this pattern. While currently engaging in talks, he believes Trump understands the strategic game being played and is prepared to act if diplomacy fails to achieve real results. The question now, he says, is not whether Iran is talking — but whether it is truly willing to change course.

As tensions rise and the region stands at a crossroads, this report examines the deeper strategy behind Iran’s negotiations, Hamas’ continued grip on Gaza, and why some experts believe the current moment may determine whether diplomacy prevails or confrontation becomes inevitable.
