Notes:

Galatians 1:6-10

-The Gospel is offensive.

-Everyone loves an easy and American gospel.

-Slippery slope of dissension away from truth.

Many people believe in several moral statutes not exclusive to any of the major world religions. It is this combination of beliefs that has been labeled Moralistic Therapeutic Deism:

1. A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth.

2. God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions.

3. The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself.

4. God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve a problem.

5. Good people go to heaven when they die.

Moralism- Manner, character, or proper behavior. The differentiation of intentions, decisions, and actions between those that are "good" (or right) and those that are "bad" (or wrong).

Secular Humanism- The philosophy or life stance of secular humanism embraces human reason, ethics, social justice and philosophical naturalism, while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, pseudoscience or superstition as the basis of morality and decision making. It posits that human beings are capable of being ethical and moral without religion or a god.

Universalism- A community that calls itself Universalist may emphasize the universal principles of most religions and accept other religions in an inclusive manner, believing in a universal reconciliation between humanity and the divine.

Syncretism- Religious syncretism exhibits blending of two or more religious belief systems into a new system, or the incorporation into a religious tradition of beliefs from unrelated traditions. This can occur for many reasons, and the latter scenario happens quite commonly in areas where multiple religious traditions exist in proximity and function actively in the culture, or when a culture is conquered, and the conquerors bring their religious beliefs with them, but do not succeed in entirely eradicating the old beliefs or, especially, practices.

Atheism - A person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings

Agnosticism - A person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as god, and the essential nature of things are unknown and un-knowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.

Pantheism - God is an impersonal power that exists and was created by the universe itself and will one day be reabsorbed by the universe. In this view an entity, or being called God does not actually exist. God, they say is a cosmic life force that includes all the substance of the universe. Nature and the idea of God are the same. 8%
