Fires have broken out once again around Tongariro National Park as hot weather continues to grip parts of the country.

Heat alerts were issued in Gisborne and Hastings today, and despite being very early summer, several places are now experiencing an official heat wave. Senior reporter Juliet Speedy has the story.
