This band formed in 1970 when two bands played at the same gig - Steven Tyler's Chain Reaction and Tom Hamilton and Joe Perry's Jam Band. Tyler liked the sound and wanted to combine the bands and they agreed. Steven Tyler became the frontman of Aerosmith which signed their first record deal in 1972. In 1973 they released their self-titled debut album which reached gold status then and was later certified double platinum when the band reached mainstream status. Their 3rd album 'Toys in the Attic' established the group as international stars. In the 80s after a period of problems especially with drugs and such they got back into the spotlight when rapgroup Run-D.M.C. took one of their song and re-introduced the band to a new generation. After singer Steven Tyler successfully completed a drug rehabilition programm their next album 'Permanent Vacation' was a huge success, selling over 5 million times in the US alone and spawned 3 hit singles. Their next album 'Pump' was even a bigger success story, released in 1989 it included 3 Top 10 singles in the USA and sold 7 million units. After a short break 'Get a Grip' in 1993 achieved the same success and became their first album to debut at #1. Their success continued and in 2001 they were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and today they have sold over 150 million records worldwide and 70 million in their homecountry.
