Trump says Iran deal is close as Tehran rejects US pressure

US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about a potential deal with Iran, saying Tehran is eager to reach an agreement during his visit to Ireland.

Iranian professor and analyst Mostafa Khoshcheshm rejects Trump's claims, arguing that the rhetoric is a political tactic aimed at stabilising oil prices ahead of the US midterm elections. He says Iran will not negotiate under pressure and could escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Khoshcheshm also points to Iran's economic resilience despite US sanctions, citing increased crude revenues and alternative trade routes. Upcoming regional talks in Oman are expected to focus on maritime security.
