War returns to Iran with Israel, US strikes

US President Donald Trump has claimed responsibility for a dramatic strike that destroyed Iran’s largest bridge, escalating the ongoing five-week-long conflict he initiated with Tehran. The target was the newly constructed B1 suspension bridge, standing 136 meters high and valued at $400 million, connecting Tehran and Karaj. Footage shared by Trump showed the bridge collapsing onto the causeway below amid a massive plume of black smoke, leaving a clear gap at the center and rendering the infrastructure permanently unusable.

According to Iranian state media in Karaj, eight people were killed and 95 others were wounded in the attack, which struck the middle of the bridge twice. Trump described the strike on his Truth Social account as a decisive blow, declaring, “The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again,” and warned that “much more to follow” if a settlement to end the war was not reached. The incident underscores the intensifying hostilities, the high human and infrastructural cost of the conflict, and the continued escalation of military operations that threaten to further destabilize the region and heighten global geopolitical tensions.
