LIVE: China Hits Back at US with 125% Tariffs, Global Markets Stumble | Vantage with Palki Sharma | N18G

China has hit back at the US with a 125% "retaliatory" tariff, a day after US President Donald Trump imposed a total of 145% tariffs on Beijing. While Trump had initially announced a 125% tariff on China, the White House later clarified that this would be imposed in addition to the pre-existing 20% fentanyl-related tariff on Beijing. Despite Trump's warnings, China increased its previously imposed 85% tariff on the US to 125% — matching Trump's offensive.
Meanwhile, the global markets further tumbled everywhere as the trade war escalated between Beijing and Washington. Japan's Nikkei, South Korea's Kospi, and the US' Dow Jones — all opened in the red on Friday. India's stock markets were however spared from the bloodbath as both Sensex and Nifty closed in green on Thursday — the same day as Trump announced a 90-day pause on "retaliatory" tariffs for over 75 countries. The price of gold also shot up on Friday, with the price of 24K gold touching Rs 96,000 per 10gm in India.
