When we think of professional athletes we often don't imagine that they do anything other than their sport. But in a sport like ultra running, in addition to being a competitive athlete, you almost have to have a full-time career to make ends meet.

Rachel Drake does just that. In one part of her life she is breaking the tape at the finish of 50 kilometer trail races, and in the other part she is making medical breakthroughs in a laboratory.

For her, though, her scientific career is not about necessity, it's something she is truly passionate about. The tricky part is finding balance between those passions.
