Canadian consumers and businesses are feeling the immediate impact of the trade war as Canada's new counter-tariffs on American imports take effect. CTV's Dylan Dyson reports that McMullan Appliance and Mattress owner Corey McMullan saw prices on U.S.-made washers and dryers jump $540 overnight because the manufacturer could not disperse the tariff costs; a fiery head-on crash in Ottawa's southwest end has left a man in his 20s dead and another driver in critical condition. CTV's Katie Griffin reports that emergency crews responded to Fallowfield Road just west of Old Richmond Road overnight and found both vehicles on fire and 25 metres apart; and incumbent mayoral candidate Mark Sutcliffe has unveiled a plan to end homelessness in Ottawa by building 10,000 more affordable homes, but his opponents remain unconvinced. CTV's Austin Lee reports that Sutcliffe is promising to double the rate of supportive housing to build 650 units over the next five years, though he could not provide a specific timeline for ending homelessness.
