Michael Bolton - Steel Bars (Lyric Video)

Michael Bolton - Steel Bars out now!

"Steel Bars" was one of the most exciting experiences of my life because I wrote it with Bob Dylan. I don't know exactly what he said during the first two minutes of our writing session because all I was thinking was "oh my god this is Bob Dylan,” — I was just a complete fan, just a mega fan. I came up with a bunch of different options, chord changes on my acoustic guitar. And I was humming some melodies, and he said "oh, Steel Bars, wrapped all around me" and I said to myself 'that's so Dylan, I love it’.

It's an incredible experience having 60 plus symphony orchestra musicians playing these beautiful arrangements of some of my favorite songs. It brings so much more dimension to songs I've recorded, some I've written, a lot of them hits of mine but that I've been performing all around the world for about 35 years. Now I get to experience the width and breadth of the emotional content of the songs, transformed through this amazing group of arrangements that is this symphonic orchestra album. It’s truly a dream come true for me.

The album, A Symphony of Hits, which includes Steel Bars, debuted number #1 on the Billboard Classical Album Chart in 2019.

Lyrics

In the night I hear you speak

Turn around, you're in my sleep

Feel your hands inside my soul

You're holding on and you won't let go

I've tried running, but there's no escape

Can't bend them, and I just can't break these

Steel bars, wrapped all around me

I've been your prisoner since the day you found me

I'm bound forever till the end of time

Steel bars wrapped around this heart of mine

Trying hard to recognize

See the face behind the eyes

Feel your haunting ways like chains

'Round my heart they still remain

Steel bars, wrapped all around me

I've been your prisoner since the day you found me

I'm bound forever till the end of time

Steel bars wrapped around this heart of mine

And with every step I take

Every desperate move I make

It's clear to me

What can all my living mean

When time itself is so obscene

When time itself don't mean a thing?

I'm still loving you

Steel bars, wrapped all around me

I've been your prisoner since the day you found me

I'm bound forever till the end of time

Steel bars wrapped around this heart of mine
